Renewal

“Trees are sanctuaries. Whoever knows how to speak to them, whoever knows how to listen to them, can learn the truth.” – Hermann Hesse

Stuck in a low

In every artist’s journey, there are valleys that deepen our appreciation for the peaks. The past couple of years have been a struggle for me creatively—like being stuck in a deep crevasse—the connection to my art and passion for photography obscured by towering walls of frustration and disillusionment, the echo of my aspirations returning as hollow and unfulfilled dreams.

I had become trapped pursuing ‘the perfect shot,’ losing sight of the moment and yielding to the pressure of capturing images that would stand out on social media. Parts of my portfolio appeared less like a canvas of my unique perspective and more like a reflection of others. It was a chilling realization that sent me into introspection.

Chance for renewal

But even in crevasses—the sun peaks through—forcing us to look up, reassess our paths, and forge new trails. I’ve felt its warming rays, melting the icy doubts and fears. I’ve started to hear the call of the artist within, echoing through the chasm, and it fills me with resolve. It’s a call to ascend, claw my way back up, and reconnect with why I love photography–the intimate dance with nature, my heightened senses, the subtle interplay of light, and the incredible opportunity for self-expression.

And so, I am embarking on a journey of rediscovery. I’m trading wide angles for intimate scenes, chasing perfect light for evocative moods, and trading recognition for self-expression.

A new beginning

This past week, I’ve visited the local woods, camera in hand and an open mind, looking for a new truth. I’ve been exploring new techniques, letting go of perfection, and reconnecting with the raw, ethereal beauty that drew me to photography.

I’m excited, and nervous, to see where this journey leads. Here’s to starting anew and taking action on the things that matter to us!
